Episode 139 - Sam John from Church Underground

In Episode 139, Keith and Justin sit down with Sam Throat John from Church Underground in Toronto. The guys talk about the motivations for starting Church Underground, and how this church is reaching out to those in the hardcore music scene. They also discuss alternative forms of worship, and how metal can facilitate worshipful, religious experiences. Sam also delves into his past as he discusses his experiences as the frontman for the Indian Christian metal band, Whitenoiz. Finally, they also talk about why Christian churches have been hesitant to accept metal and hardcore music as an acceptable form of worship/entertainment. We had an absolute blast talking with Sam, so be sure to listen in! In the beginning, the guys briefly discuss the sickening events centered around white supremacy in Charlottesville. Justin weighs the options of violence vs. nonviolence in combating fascism and white nationalism, while Keith laments over humanity's depravity, speaks strongly against the evils of racism, and asks whether we could ever erase it from our society. As always, we are joined by Darcy Rumble from Giants in the Sound as we discuss The Wise Man’s Fear’s new album, The Lost City. Finally, in the end, the guys give their final thoughts on the episode, as Justin struggles with his idealism in the face of this past week. As always, be sure to comment, rate, and subscribe to the podcast! Let us know what you think!
